Competitions
Here at Just Hospitality we do have a very competitive nature, this is harnessed in the form of culinary competitions. We do have a history of being very successful on the culinary competition circuit.
Matt Byne our Director of Food has represented Just Hospitality at many renowned trade competitions and is a multiple gold medal winner in a range of classes.
Matt also encourages other members of the Just Hospitality chef team to try their hand at competing. This gives everybody a chance to compete against their peers and fellow chefs. It is also a good way of keeping up with current food trends and networking with other like minded professionals.
Matt and two other Just Hospitality chefs, Chris Pickett & Imola Heromszeki recently competed at the Wessex Salon Culinaire in Bournemouth.
All three were competing in live classes. Watched by judges and marked on craft skills, hygiene, taste, aesthetics & presentation.
It was the first competition that Chris & Imola had entered so nerves were running high!!
Chris was entered into the Lamb class for which he cooked in thirty minutes Best End of Lamb, Deep Fried Artichoke Puree, Lamb 'Bacon', Tenderstem Broccoli, Peas & Shoots. Chris dually won a Gold Medal
Imola was entered into the Cold Chicken Preparation class. Sadly Imola was unsuccessful on her first occasion but with the judges comments taken on board she has vowed to return at the next competition and try again.
Matt was entered into the Scallop class for which he cooked in twenty minutes Caramelised Hand Dived Scallops, Warm Confit Leek Salad, Crispy Chicken Oysters, Toasted Barley & Prune Butter Dressing. Matt won a Silver Medal and Best in Class
We were kindly sponsored for this event by China Stack.
All in all it was a successful trip!
We are competing again in September at the ACE Ready Steady Cook event.
