June & July food round up - Summer oh-yeah...
It has been what we can all safely call an awesome summer. Full of exciting events - whether it was sporting events like the World Cup and Wimbledon, Pride events or our very first Hack Week - there was just so much going on in London as well as at JH. Here’s what we were up to in June and July.
Healthy Eating Week
Summer time is rife with people wanting to eat light. It was the British Nutrition Foundation Healthy Eating Week from 11th to 17th June and we decided to support with a Healthy Eating menu across all our clients. A week with menus full of warm and cold salads, with a real focus on antioxidants, healthy fats, probiotics, fibres - all for better health.
National Fish and Chips Day
Our clients (and us too, I’ll be honest!) love fish n chips. There’s something so comforting, yet naughty about a plate of fish n chips, beer batter scraps and some mushy peas. So when it is actually National Fish n Chips Day, we don't shy away from the works and put on a great themed menu, all served on old school newsprint too ;). A wee bit of nostalgia there...
The World Cup fever had well and truly gripped us all this summer. With England in great form, #ItsComingHome became an anthem on everyone's lips. Undoubtedly we put on quite a few parties to coincide with matches. So whether it was themed drinks and snacks or just some cute football cookies at lunch, we totally scored!
And where there was footie fun, we couldn't have ever ignored the best sporting event of the London calendar - The Wimbledon Championships! So whether it was mid afternoon pop up with strawberries & cream, macaroons and some bubbles or lunchtime treats, there were plenty aces in there!
National Picnic Week
Picnic menus are classic favorites with us all - they remind us of carefree school holidays! A slight glimpse of the sun and its picnic time in London and with the great run of amazing weather we have had this summer, we thought why not celebrate with a picnic themed menu for lunch during National Picnic Week! So Sausage rolls and cheese quiche for main? Yes, please!
World Gin Day
We absolutely love GIN here at JH. It's such a versatile spirit and smake for such a joyful drink. For World Gin Day, we put baked an awesome gin cheesecake with a gin & tonic glaze - a gintastic treat for our clients at lunchtime!
The French national day was celebrated with double gusto as they emerged the Football World Cup Champions over the weekend! We put together a classical French menu with Coq au Vin, Bouillabaisse and some cherry clafoutis to finish off the meal!
Canadian cuisine has evolved over time with historical influences from British and French cuisines and subsequently from various waves of immigration from around the world including European, South Asian, East Asian and the Caribbean. For Canada Day, we put together a menu with some classical favorites - Maple glazed pork belly, maple & balsamic glazed salmon, poutine and Nanaimo bars.
July is the month of the Pride parade in London. All our clients host various events around the time to celebrate diversity in their workplaces. Themed events with lots of colour and fun is the only brief we follow. But for us at Just Hospitality Pride is not only about the big event in July - it’s about celebrating love in all shapes and forms throughout the year - all served with a huge dollop of fun!
A JH Highlight: Hack Week
We work with some amazing tech companies - YOU! So when it came to improving our own processes and thinking creatively, who better to learn from, than our wonderful clients. We put on a brilliant Hack Week and turned it into a week of innovative thinking, learning, trying and experiencing new food and drink ideas and ways of bringing them back into use at JH. More about the JH Hack Week here.
With the gorgeous summer and the need for lighter, cleaner eating, we got our Poke bars make the rounds at all our clients. Simply delicious delicate fish or tofu with some rice, a variety of sauces & crisp vegetables topped with nuts - this was one Poke stop, everyone wanted to visit!
As part of our hack week, we visited a street food market and came back with some ideas for adding to our repertoire. The Arepa bar was a result of testing of some of these ideas in our development kitchen. These lovely Venezuelan breads are made of white cornmeal, water and salt, the dough is formed into a patty, grilled, baked, split open and stuffed. We served ours with a choice of beef, chicken and plantain fillings.
JH does Events
This summer saw a huge number of requests for special events by our clients. We put on quite the show! Whether it was canape or sit down dinners, barbecues or just some sandwiches and sliders, cocktail bars or wine pairing, we have just the right solution for all types of events!
New client alert...
We also welcomed two new, really exciting clients, who will now get lots of JH Food love. We can't wait to tell you more, but details will have to wait until some boring paperwork arrives...
